The Big Bronx Sancochazo: Calling Party & Art Build

We began The Big Bronx Sancochazo a few years ago to raise awareness about worker cooperatives here in the Bronx. This event is done in the spirit of cooperation amongst neighbors, building relationships, and having fun.

The Sancochazo brings folks together with food and culture and keeps it participatory for anyone who wants to take a turn and cook the sancocho (stew), contribute to the potluck table for snacks and drinks, or lead an activity - each one teach one - or perform their talent on stage. 

To make this event a success, we need many hands to support it! We will go over the needs for the event, and what volunteers can do before and day-of event.

On Saturday, September 22nd, from 12pm-5pm we need volunteers for phone calls & art build:

• phonebanking to reach out to organizations and individuals 

• build a giant piñata (then fill with goodies) 

• sign making for event

• button making

On Friday, September 28th, from 5:00-9:00pm, the night before the event, we have a food preparation party over at Youth Ministries for Peace & Justice, who are generously offering their kitchen space for us.

• seasoning and chopping meat and vegetables for the meat and *vegetarian* sancocho

• making signs for the different areas of the park 

• hanging out with new folks

And Saturday, September 29th, the day of the event, we will have multiple activities going on throughout the park all day from 12:00-6:00pm. Volunteers are needed for:

• setting up tables, cooking area, signs, presentation areas at start of day

• clean up and break down at end of day

• directing attendees to activities, welcoming them to the event

• logistically supporting performers, artists, co-op members, with materials, timing, etc.
