We began The Big Bronx Sancochazo a few years ago to raise awareness about worker cooperatives here in the Bronx. This event is done in the spirit of cooperation amongst neighbors, building relationships, and having fun.
The Sancochazo brings folks together with food and culture and keeps it participatory for anyone who wants to take a turn and cook the sancocho (stew), contribute to the potluck table for snacks and drinks, or lead an activity - each one teach one - or perform their talent on stage.
To make this event a success, we need many hands to support it! We will go over the needs for the event, and what volunteers can do before and day-of event.
All events are family friendly.
On Friday, September 27th, from 5:00-9:00pm, the night before the event, we have a food preparation party.
-
seasoning and chopping meat and vegetables for the meat and *vegetarian* sancocho
-
making signs for the different areas of the park
This will be located at Youth Ministries for Peace & Justice (1384 Stratford Ave, Bronx, NY 10472), who are generously offering their kitchen space for us.
Bring an item to share and an ingredient for the sancocho.
